Projects
Residential and Commercial Properties
GeoInvestigations undertake ground investigations for all types of residential and commercial projects including new housing developments, single or small scale developments, commercial and industrial developments, extensions to existing properties, investigations for subsidence problems and load testing of existing industrial floor slabs.
We specialise in carrying out investigations in difficult locations, including within domestic properties or inside operational retail facilities. Electric boreholes rigs can be used to avoid fuel odours and damage to soft furnishings and hand held probing equipment is used in very restrictive locations.
Petrol Filling Stations
GeoInvestigations investigate and remediate former petrol filling station sites to the satisfaction of the Regulators.
One particular site in Coventry was complicated by the presence of contaminated water bearing sands, resulting in the need for groundwater pumping and treatment to facilitate the lowering of the water table to enable excavation of the hydrocarbon ‘smear zone’. This also resulted in the removal of the contamination groundwater at source.
Domestic Heating Oil Tank Leaks
Leaks from heating oil tanks occur frequently, creating odours and nuisance for the owners and neighbours. They can result in the need for investigation and remediation in awkward places, such as inside properties.
Care was needed to ensure the external wall of this property was supported during the remedial excavation works to remove the impacted soil.
Masonry impregnated with heating oil was also removed due to the strong odours and replaced with mass concrete.
Pre-Purchase Acquisition/Due Diligence
Examination of operational sites prior to acquisition can present difficulties, requiring investigation of target areas within buildings.
Former Industrial Sites
Heavily contaminated former factories, chemical works and gasworks sites are routinely investigated, subject to quantitative risk assessment and remediated to ensure future users are protected and off-site liabilities reduced to an acceptable level of risk.
Development of remediation strategies and implementation plans in accordance with CLR11 are produced to the satisfaction of the Regulators, taking into consideration the control of dust, vapour and odour emissions and including the preparation of Materials Management Plans.
